Annual design event taps industry leaders for inspiration and insight Oct. 9-12

HOUSTON – The Houston Design District is thrilled to welcome a dynamic lineup of talent for its annual Fall Design Week + Access/Design on Monday, October 9 through Thursday, October 12. The 4th annual design celebration will showcase the latest in trends in interior design and architecture through lectures, book signings, educational presentations and more. Each inspiring event will be hosted by leading showrooms throughout The Houston Design District. Program highlights include:

Monday, October 9

Fall Design Week welcomes world-renowned Vicente Wolf, one of the most influential designers in the United States. Vincente will offer an engaging presentation and talk about his new book, Creative Interior Solutions, followed by a book signing.  The event is presented by Luxe Interiors + Design, Meredith O’Donnell Fine Furniture, ROMBAUER Fine Wines, and The Houston Design District.

Nina Magon presents her new book, Nina Magon: Evoke (Monacelli). Growing up in Houston, interior designer Nina Magon’s family would frequently return to India and, with every passage, take a different course in visiting the world’s cultural capitals. These detours profoundly impacted Magon’s global approach and shaped her award-winning practice. In her first book, Evoke, Magon shares the cosmopolitan glamour that has become her signature with a careful balance of high-gloss modernism and old-world grandeur. An award-winning interior designer based in Houston, Paloma Contreras is pleased to present her new book, The New Classic Home (Abrams).  With spectacular photography and personalized design tips, The New Classic Home divulges how to blend vintage pieces into even the most contemporary settings, creating layered, interesting spaces that always include an element of modern surprise with a touch of elegant antiquity. Contreras presents her four main techniques – Color, Texture and pattern, Scale and proportion and Tension. Reviving Paul Laszlo: The restoration of an Old Braeswood midcentury home. Paul Laszlo, a Hungarian Jew who escaped the Holocaust but still lost many family members, found his way to America, landing in Beverly Hills, Calif.  By 1952, Time magazine had dubbed him “the Millionaire’s Architect.” Laszlo designed only one home in Houston, and it’s the current residence of designer Mary Patton, who renovated and restored the midcentury modern home in Old Braeswood with creativity and color. “A Collaboration: Blurring the lines between interior design and architecture”  

Luxurious homes are designed by teams of people, and no collaboration is more important than the architect and interior designer, who work their way from drawings to finished homes in a finely choreographed dance. Houston designer Linda Eyles and architect Michael Hsu, a Houston native with offices in both Houston and Austin, will talk about their work together on Linda’s own home in the Heights and other projects.
