The Houston Design District is greeting spring with a full lineup of designer talks on April 5-6 for its annual Design Days event.

Design Days

April 5 begins with a VIP reception with Nina Magon at 9:30 a.m., followed by her 10 a.m. talk, “Next Level: Great Design and How to Leverage it for More.” Magon will discuss her own career, starting as an interior designer and eventually creating a furniture collection for Universal Furniture, a line of counter slabs for Cosentino’s Dekton collection, lighting for Studio M, and other products for a special sale at Bergdorf Goodman.

At 11:15 a.m. the Design Days event will include Mary Lambra- kos of Lambrakos Studio will talk about “The intersection of Art and Design.” Lambrakos, who once was a curator at the Menil Collection and now has her own interior design firm, will talk about the intrinsic relationship between art and interior design.

James Craig Furnishings (Suite 298) will host the VIP reception and morning talks by Magon and Lambrakos, then the afternoon events shift to Thorntree Slate & Marble (Suite 167). Both showrooms are in the Houston Design Center, 7026 Old Katy Road. (Full disclosure: I’ll be the emcee for Wednes- day’s events.)

At 1 p.m., interior designer Gin Braverman of Gin Design Group and Andrea Mendoza Star Chron
Chef/restaurateur David Cordúa will talk about their experience designing and launching Cordúa’s new bar-forward restaurant Lymbar in “Inside the Collaborative Story-telling of Restaurant Design.” Braverman has an extensive list of hospitality projects, including Mala Sichuan, Eunice, Goodnight Charlie’s and Ginger Kale. Cordúa and his father, Michael Cordúa, are longtime Houston chefs/restaurateurs.

Then at 2 p.m. Design Days continues with, Lucinda Loya of Lucinda Loya Interiors will talk about fashionable homes in her talk, “Interiors With a Passion: Texture + Color = Lifestyle! Let Your Style Lead You.”

Thursday’s lineup, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., is filled with showroom open houses, including one at Connie LeFevre’s Fabric House (Suite 159), a showroom of fabrics and wallcoverings that has recently doubled in size. An opening reception will be at Scene One Interiors (Suite 109) at 10 a.m., with a talk on rug trends. At 11 a.m., designer Victoria Sheffield will talk about the recent ASID designer showhouse in the Design House showroom (Suite 115).

At noon, LeFevre and her staff will be on hand for tours of the expanded Fabric House, then at 1 p.m., architect Randall Walker of Kirksey Architects

will talk about sustainability in the workplace from the Johnson Simon Resources showroom (Suite 161). At 2 p.m., Bilal Rehman will give a talk on his experience-based, sensory designs in the redesigned FAO in Design showroom at 7069 Old Katy Road, behind Joyce Horne Antiques.
