The Houston Design District was delighted to host its fourth annual Fall Design Week + Access/Design from October 9 to October 12. This yearly design celebration highlights the latest interior design and architecture trends, featuring lectures, book signings, educational presentations, and more.

In collaboration with Luxe Interiors + Design, Fall Design Week welcomed the renowned Vicente Wolf, one of the most influential designers in the United States. Wolf engaged the audience with an insightful discussion about his new book, “Creative Interior Solutions.” The event was hosted by District Member Meredith O’Donnell Fine Furniture showroom and treated special guests to exquisite designer furnishings, two epic charcuterie table layouts, premium wines from Rombauer, and a book signing with Vicente.

On the opening day of Fall Design Week, hosted by James Craig Furnishings showroom, celebrated interior designers Nina Magon and Paloma Contreras presented their new books. Discussions, led by Houston Chronicle’s Architecture and Home Design Writer Diane Cowen, provided insights into Magon’s “Evoke,” showcasing cosmopolitan glamour, and Contreras’s “The New Classic Home,” delving into her four main design techniques. A luncheon hosted by Jimmy Keathley preceded a dynamic panel discussion on “The Dialogue Between Art and Design” with Mary Lambrakos, Rebekah Bredthauer, Katie LaRose, and moderator Megan Hotze.

Architecture was celebrated during Fall Design Week at Kirksey Architects and Johnson Simon Resources. Catherine Callaway, Associate Vice President of Kirsey Architects presented a morning program on Sustainability in Design CEU.  Attendees learned about top trends in sustainable design, how to approach embodied carbon on your projects, and the power of interior design to promote human health and wellbeing. That evening, Lauren Rottet, a highly accomplished architect, interior designer, furniture designer and art curator, presented the work of Rottet Studio, an international architecture and interior design firm, along with highlights of her new furniture line, the Rottet Collection. The presentation was hosted by Johnson Simon Resources showroom where guests enjoyed an inviting variety of hors d’oeuvres and Rombauer wines, along with photo ops with Lauren.

Fall Design Week presented ACCESS/DESIGN at Thorntree Natural Stone- Fine Porcelain showroom, along with Houston Chronicle’s Architecture and Home Design Writer Diane Cowen.  Presentations included designer Mary Patton, who unveiled her work on the restoration of an Old Braeswood midcentury home designed by Paul Laszlo, a leading architect in the 1950’s in Beverly Hills, CA.  ACCESS/DESIGN also included Houston designer Linda Eyles and architect Michael Hsu, a Houston native with offices in both Houston and Austin, who introduced “A Collaboration: Blurring the lines between interior design and architecture” and discussed their work together on Linda’s new home in the Heights and other projects.

Designers and guests then moved to Scene One Interiors which included a lovely luncheon followed by an informative discussion on “How to Nurture and Grow a Successful Design Business” presented by Memorial and River Oaks Lifestyle magazines with Scene One Interiors showroom owner and award-winning ASID interior designer, Steve Clifton. The discussion, moderated by the magazines’ Publisher Suzanne Schakett and the Houston Chronicle’s architecture and home design writer Diane Cowen, concluded the event in a festive manner.
